Today’s wedding photographer interview is with Holly of Holly Von Lanken Photography, based in Atlanta, Georgia. Enjoy!
Hi! My name is Holly Von Lanken. I officially started Holly Von Lanken Photography back in the fall of 2014 and am about to hit my two year anniversary on November 1st! My main goal for any wedding day is to be a calming presence for the couple and their families during what can often times be a hectic day in addition to providing timeless photographs for them to relive their day for years to come.

I’d always been “taking pictures”, but when I was living in Athens, GA friends began getting engaged and I’d offer to take engagement photos for them as a gift. From there my interest grew and I started shadowing and second shooting. I love that on a wedding day you get all the different types of photography from portraits to landscape, product, and documentary.
Hands down, my favorite moments are always with the couple. I love that I get to whisk them away for a few moments that they get to share together on their wedding day. It’s a day that’s full of love and fun, but it can be whirlwind. I love seeing how they interact with each other and capturing those moments so that they last a lifetime.
One of my first weddings that I shot, I was doing family formal photos and didn’t know about all of the divorces in the family and kept trying to put people together and it was terrible and I felt awful! Thankfully, they were forgiving and now I have learned my lesson to always ask the question about divorces on my client questionnaire.
There are so many venues in and around Atlanta! The Swan House of course is a historic gem and may be recognizable to some as President Snow’s house from The Hunger Games.
The Cliffs of Moher in Ireland would be my dream! If we have to stay in the United States, anywhere in Big Sur or the Pacific Northwest would be amazing!
Do Monica and Chandler from Friends count? If we’re going with real people… Tell Tswift to give me a call when she decides on the lucky guy.
Practice. A lot. And don’t be afraid to ask photographers you admire if you can shadow them. I’ve found that most people in this industry are so willing to help and answer questions.
Find a photographer whose personality you appreciate. You’ll be spending more time with this person than most people on your wedding day so you should enjoy their company as well as their personal approach to photography.
